Seraphin

Ken plays bass, does vocals and when needed runs the sound for Seraphin.

Ken has been a part of the Sonoma County Original Music scene since 1993 when he joined the progressive rock band Grin Neal, which later became Stratosphere when Miles Olson took over the keyboard position. Miles led to meeting Tor Olson, who had a recording studio and label in Santa Rosa called Clubhouse Records. Ken worked there as an intern, which turned out to be a great opportunity to work with Jane Clark who worked at Motown Records in L.A. for 13 years, her mixing credits include Lionel Richie's Dancing On The Ceiling album and the Commodores Brick House. Looking over her shoulder and asking questions, as well as performing a variety of tasks using the large Trident mixer and 2" reel-to-reel tape machine became the basis of a long career in Audio Engineering which continues to this day at Sebtone Studio in Sebastopol, where he is currently mixing the Seraphin album.

Clubhouse Records led to a long relationship with Phil Hirsch in his group Phil's Harmonic Orchestra. Along the way Ken has performed with Johnny B & The Stingers, John Reese with Open Hearts, Joanne Rand & The Rhythm of the Open Hearts, the Ruminators, El Kabong, and has sit in with many other local bands before stumbling across Seraphin. As mentioned, he is also the head Engineer at a new recording studio in Sebastopol, Sebtone Studio. He also does live sound at the Russian River Brewing Company as well as for L'Audio North.

Seraphin has turned out to be a really fun gig, and the flexibility of the keyboard position allowed him to bring in his good friend Raliegh Neal, who sits in with the band whenever he is not on tour with Michael Franti & Spearhead. The combination of good songwriting and live improvisation is something Ken has been looking for over the years.
